March 28th 2024. A momentous day for Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, with the launch of their flights and holidays from Liverpool John Lennon Airport. Invited onto the inaugural flight at 8am to the sunny isle of Tenerife, we arrived super early to the airport which was a hive of activity, even at 5am. From Beatles tribute bands, complimentary breakfasts and of course cake, the time flew by before it was time embark on our trip with Jet2holidays to Tenerife.

JET2.COM & JET2HOLIDAYS TO TENERIFE AND OTHER DESTINATIONS FROM LIVERPOOL

As the UK’s largest tour operator, Jet2.com and Jet2Holidays offer a wide range of holidays types and destinations to suit all manner of travellers. Looking to carry 6.71 million passengers over the next twelve months, there’s no surprise that the airline and holiday operator were looking to expand their UK bases, with Liverpool John Lennon Airport being their eleventh UK hub. From flights,  indulgent escapes, villa holidays and city breaks, the launch of their first summer season from Liverpool includes twenty destinations. With destinations including mainland Spain, the Canary Islands, the Balearics, Portugal, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey, Jet2 feature a wide range of holiday types which will also include winter Christmas market breaks to both Krakow and Prague.

JET2’S INAUGURAL FLIGHT FROM LIVERPOOL JOHN LENNON AIRPORT TO TENERIFE

With an 8am departure for the inaugural Jet2 flight to Tenerife on March 28th 2024, we arrived at Liverpool John Lennon Airport just after 5am. A number of airport hotels nearby, along with a long stay car park directly across from the terminal, meant it was an easy start to the day. Arriving to the airport terminal on a dark, wet Liverpool morning, our spirits were immediately lifted by friendly greetings from Jet2 staff when entering the Jet2 check in area of departures. With balloon arches and Jet2 branding  celebrating the 1st Flight Club Liverpool, having already checked in online, our bag drop was seamless and efficient and we headed through to security, passing further Jet2 photo points along the way.

Having previously only flown from Liverpool John Lennon Airport once before, about 25 years ago, it was good to be back at a smaller airport, rather than flying out the larger UK hubs. Living on the North Wales coast, the driving time to both Liverpool and Manchester airports are similar. At just over an hour to get to either, the addition of the Jet2 operations from Liverpool to destinations that are firmly on my travel list, I can see Liverpool becoming a popular choice for short haul flights going forward. A speedy trip through security, and through Duty Free on the upper level, we arrived in the departures lounge ready for our trip with Jet2holidays to Tenerife.

With local radio stations setting up for live broadcasts and press milling around, the build up for the inaugural flight to Tenerife was kicking up speed. Upon exiting Duty Free, the newly opened Sable & Co Bar & Kitchen was located on the upper level of departures and would house the celebrations and festivities from 6am. Passing through another balloon arch and greeted by more smiling faces, this fabulous space was the ideal spot to invite everyone booked onto the first flight with Jet2.com & Jet2Holidays to Tenerife. With a Beatles cover band kicking off the celebrations in Liverpool, there was a fantastic breakfast buffet spread laid out for passengers as well as the addition of some tasty 1st Flight Club cupcakes.

Taking a seat and tucking into the hot and cold breakfast buffet,  we watched as the Beatles cover band enthusiastically made their way through the setlist of well known tunes, before there were speeches and photo opportunities from the heads of Jet2.com & Jet2holidays as well as Liverpool John Lennon Airport. From the speeches, it was clear that this long awaited launch was the start of a great collaboration, opening up fantastic opportunities for both parties as well as prospective passengers from North West England and North Wales.

As time flew by, it was time to head to the gate to ensure that the inaugural flight with Jet2holidays to Tenerife from Liverpool John Lennon Airport would take off on time. With all guests given a Jet2 goodie bag before boarding, we embarked the aircraft, and were waved off by a gathering crowd of Jet2 representatives, airport staff and press. All guests boarded, it was time for one final speech on board by Jet2’s CEO, and a raffle for one lucky passenger to win another Jet2 holiday. Aircraft doors closed, a quick taxi to the runway and we took off, heading to the sunny climes of Tenerife waved off the by crowds at the airport. With the jet stream against us, a fairly long 4 hour 50 minute flight time flew by, thanks to the efficient and friendly service of the cabin crew and occasional updates from the cockpit. Before we knew it, we were disembarking out of the aircraft to temperatures that were 20C higher than when we left. Welcome to Tenerife.

A LONG WEEKEND WITH JET2HOLIDAYS TO TENERIFE

From the drier landscapes of the south coast to the lush and greener northern side of the island, Tenerife is a versatile holiday destination that suits a varied style of traveller. Located off the west coast of Africa, this Spanish island is the largest of the Canary Islands with year round warm temperatures featuring beach resorts, world class waterparks, a stunning volcanic national park and Mount Teide, the tallest peak in Spain. Whether you are looking for a luxurious all inclusive break, a beach holiday, a hiking trip, or you want to immerse yourself in the culture of the island, the options are endless.

Having only three nights to spend on our trip with Jet2holidays to Tenerife, we opted for a resort hotel that could offer all we needed for a relaxing break in the sun. Our destination of choice was Costa Adeje, one of the popular resort on the south coast which offered a long stretch of coastline with promenade walks and sandy beaches, alongside a thriving nightlife and Siam Park, a world class waterpark attraction. At only twenty minutes from Tenerife South airport, Costa Adeje sits alongside the resorts of Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos, all of which form the most popular package holiday destinations on the island.

LIVING THE LIFE OF LUXURY AT DREAMS JARDIN TROPICAL RESORT & SPA

You’d be forgiven for completely forgetting you are in the heart of a resort town with a stay at the beautifully designed Dreams Jardin Tropical Resort & Spa. The stunning whitewashed building, set in subtropical gardens, is a haven of tranquillity with a seafront location and close to everything that Costa Adeje has to offer. Exuding style and class, this resort hotel features a number of a la carte and buffet restaurants, several bars and a lagoon style pool at the heart of the gardens full of lush planting. This was definitely the perfect spot for our mini break with Jet2holidays to Tenerife.

Having an impressive 419 rooms in total, even during Easter weekend and a high occupancy, the hotel did not feel crowded or busy. Our room, a ground level Junior Suite, was tucked away to the corner of the hotel building, with access to a private enclosed terrace with a sofa, table and chairs as well as two sun loungers, providing an additional option to relax outdoors away from the main pool areas. The spacious room was subtle and stylishly decorated with neutral tones, and splashes of blue for colour.  A large king size bed featured alongside a sofa, side chair and large desk area with kettle and pod style coffee machine. The spacious bathroom was accessed via a closet area with storage to both sides, a safe and mini bar. Featuring two sinks, a large walk in shower cubicle with rain forest shower head, and a separate room housing this WC, the bathroom had plenty of space for toiletries storage and also included bathrobes and slippers.

We sampled many of the dining and drinking options during our stay, choosing to spend a lot of our short stay within the resort complex. From a huge variety of options at the buffet breakfast in World Café to three a la carte restaurants, there were choices featuring small plates, Italian fare and fabulous steaks and meats. Lunch could be taken buffet style at Tides or at the poolside Barefoot Grill, while a few steps away, the perfect late afternoon lounging spot was at Sugar Reef for smoothies or milkshakes. No stay to the Dreams Jardin Tropical Resort & Spa was complete without pre-dinner drinks at Sunset Bar. Steps leading from the poolside headed onto a raised patio, providing unobstructed views across the ocean to watch the sun setting behind the neighbouring island of La Gomera. It was the perfect spot.

EXPLORING THE RESORT OF COSTA ADEJE

We could have spent the whole weekend within the relaxing surrounds of the Dreams Jardin Tropical Resort and Spa, but we did take a couple of trips out to explore the surrounding area of Costa Adeje. With access from the rear of the hotel directly onto the promenade, we took an afternoon stroll to explore the beaches and coastline of the resort. Having stayed in Costa Adeje more than twenty years before, the bars and entertainment were the main draws back then, with days spent recovering on the beach. Things have changed significantly since then, including my accommodation preference and capabilities for consuming alcohol! Easter weekend saw the beaches and bars of Costa Adeje packed full of happy tourists enjoying the sunshine. We wandered north west along from our hotel, passing the harbour of Puerto Colón and beaches of Playe de la Pinta and Playa de Fañabé – a popular beach with a long expanse of sand and lined with beach bars, restaurants and clubs.

Venturing further away from the main hub of Costa Adeje, the promenade became quieter as is snaked it’s way around rocky headlands and towards the upscale Playa del Duque, a beautiful golden sand beach flanked by some large and high end hotel resorts. This area, while still busy and vibrant, seemed more laid back than the areas closer to the centre of the resort. Wandering along the coastal pathway back towards our accommodation, the mountain backdrops of the Teide National Park were dramatic and impressive.

EXPERIENCING AN ADRENALIN FUELLED MORNING AT SIAM PARK

Our other activity on our short break with Jet2Holidays to Tenerife was a visit to the world class SIAM PARK waterpark attraction. Renowned as the #1 rated waterpark in the world for several years running, Siam Park does not disappoint when it comes to high adrenalin water slides. With numerous attractions practically hidden away within lush tropical planting, this stunning water park is great for thrill seekers, families and guests who are happy to find a quiet place to relax. With Thai inspired theming, the water park’s buildings are inspired by temples, statutes and palaces.

Large scale water slides feature across the park with extensive and impressive theming pieces. From rapids rides to high speed near vertical slides, water coasters and funnel slides the key thrill aspect I found is that the majority of slides were hidden away in the dense planting of the park, meaning you had no idea what to expect. On busy days, there can be long queues, but there is also a fast pass option available to buy at the park for €28.00 per person. We spent a morning at Siam Park and utilising a fast pass, I managed to ride everything I intended to (skipping a couple of the more extreme slides that weren’t for me!)

With two wave pools located either end of the park, offering food and beverage options at both, there was the option to grab a sun lounger and relax for the day. The larger wave pool of the two, The Wave Palace features some of the largest artificial waves in world, reaching up to 3m in height. As well as the fun of being in the water, this is a fantastic spectacle from the loungers of Siam Beach. Siam Park is a fabulous day out in Costa Adeje, but be prepared for a lot of walking as the park is vast and there is quite a distance between some of the slides and beaches of the park.

We had a fabulous stay with Jet2Holidays in Tenerife. Whilst a beach and pool holiday is often overlooked by us for road trips and hiking breaks, sometimes you just need to relax and recharge your batteries. With so much on offer on the island of Tenerife, the temptation is always there to explore further. I’d love to visit again in the future, to explore the Teide National Park and to experience the greener and more laid back northern areas of the island.
