Rwst Holiday Lodges: Luxury Lodges in Snowdonia

AD | From the cosy confines of our accommodation I step out into the afternoon sunshine on the patio, gazing out across the green landscape of the Conwy Valley. To my right, the valley wall climbs steeply and is dense with pine trees. I catch a glimpse of the foothills of Snowdonia in the distance, beyond the forest. The sound of birdsong surrounds me, and more specifically the sounds of waterfowl bobbing their way down the nearby River Conwy. An idyllic scene. We’ve come to spend the weekend in Llanrwst at Rwst Holiday Lodges – luxury lodges in Snowdonia which are set in a perfect location to explore much of what North Wales has to offer.

The market town of Llanrwst lies about thirteen miles inland from the coast of North Wales, and on the northern edge of Eryri – the Snowdonia National Park. The location of the historic town makes it an ideal base for exploring both the mountains and the coast. Whether you’re looking for thrilling adventures, beautiful scenery or simply a relaxing break, then Rwst Holiday Lodges is the perfect destination.

Rwst Holiday Lodges, Llanrwst

Opened in the summer of 2021, RWST HOLIDAY LODGES is made up of twenty five luxury single storey lodges, with a mix of one, two and three bedroom options. Located within the market town of Llanrwst, the park is set around two beautifully landscaped courtyards next to the River Conwy. The views south and west of the park look out towards stunning Conwy Valley scenery including the popular Gwydir Forest. The lodge buildings are stylishly clad with wooden panels finished in a light grey, with the end aspects finished in a beautiful local stone. The front of each lodge provides a small seating area looking out across the courtyard.

Pathways meander through the pretty courtyards towards steps leading down to the riverside. The area close to the river is equipped with an outdoor cooking station including two barbeques. There is also communal bench seating for larger groups who wish to get together to socialise outdoors. A gateway leads to a path that runs alongside the River Conwy, with attractive stone benches – a perfect spot to relax and take in the scenic views. The riverside vantage point also provides the perfect view of Llanrwst’s 17th century three arched bridge, Pont Fawr, designed by famed architect Inigo Jones.

A look inside these stunning luxury lodges in Snowdonia

Our stay was based in a one bedroom lodge – Lodge 13. Stepping into a bright and airy open plan living area, the L shaped space featured a kitchen area to the right, and a comfy lounge area leading to a dining area at the rear. With wood flooring throughout, the space was tastefully decorated in muted colours, with splashes of brightness in the soft furnishings and wall art. With varying colour schemes across all accommodations, our one bedroom lodge featured a yellow theme which ran throughout the space. A comfortable two seater yellow fabric sofa featured in lounge, along with a wooden coffee table and additional armchair. The lounge included an LED Freeview enabled TV with Netflix and Amazon Prime. Free WiFi was also included throughout the stay.

The spacious kitchen area had ample storage space, and was stocked well with cutlery, crockery, and not forgetting that crucial bottle opener and corkscrew combination. A kettle, microwave, oven, grill and hob featured alongside a dishwasher and fridge. There were complimentary teas and coffee on offer, as well as some welcoming treats including local Welsh Cakes and Jam. The dining area featured a beautiful glass dining table and chairs, located next to the rear patio doors with wonderful scenic views.

Through to the bedroom, a comfortable chunky wooden framed bed was positioned centrally with chests of drawers either side, as well as a modern, space saving open wardrobe. All fixtures and fittings were stylish and contemporary, with some stunning little design touches. The one bedroom lodges feature an en suite shower room, accessed from the bedroom. Although relatively small in size, there was ample storage space for toiletries and for towels to hang. Towels and limited toiletries were provided. The modern shower cubicle included an electric power shower.

Heading out through the rear French doors, a spacious patio area featured a two seater bench and a four seater outdoor dining table, perfect for sitting out in warmer weather. There was ample evening lighting to the rear and front of the property, which was bright but not intrusively so. The patio area of Lodge 13 overlooked a large field with fabulous views beyond towards the pine forests of Gwydir Forest. A wonderful spot to relax with a drink in the evenings, or to partake in an al fresco breakfast.

These luxury lodges in Snowdonia are really the perfect spot to base yourself for a North Wales holiday. Comfortable, stylish and located in a scenic and quiet spot, Rwst Holiday Lodges are a great addition to luxury self catering accommodation in the Conwy Valley.

Things to do near Rwst Holiday Lodges

The location of Rwst’s luxury lodges in Snowdonia provide easy access to the Snowdonia National Park and the coastline of North Wales. There are no end of scenic spots and attractions to visit during your stay. With many of these practically on the doorstep, keen hikers could happily park their car up for the duration of the stay and explore on foot. Riverside walks, forest hikes and cycles, beautiful tea rooms and adrenalin attractions are all nearby, so there is plenty to keep even the most adventurous of visitors occupied.

Around Llanrwst

Llanrwst is the ideal base for fans of walking, mountain biking and afternoon teas. Rwst Holiday Lodges are located only a few minutes walk to centre of the town, which has a range of independent shops, cafes and small businesses. The main attraction of Llanrwst is arguably the TU HWNT I’R BONT tearoom – a beautiful stone building on the edge of the River Conwy dating back to 1480. Tu Hwnt i’r Bont is one of the most popular spots in the area for photographers. The building is covered in Virginia Creeper which turns a bright shade of red in autumn – perfect timing for our visit. Sitting alongside Pont Fawr, photographers will often be lined up in late September to capture this stunning scene. The tearoom is also beautifully quaint inside, and includes a great lunch menu, including a sumptuous afternoon tea.

For cyclists, Gwydir Forest is only a short ride away from Llanrwst and has a huge network of cycling, mountain biking and walking trails. There are some trails which are only suitable for experienced mountain bikers, but also plenty for the amateurs among us. We hired E-Bikes from SNOWDONIA BIKES located in Llanrwst, and took a ride across the bridge, spending three hours exploring the stunning Gwydir Forest. As my first E-Bike experience (and my first time on two wheels in twenty years), I found the experience highly addictive, especially on the forest trails. The assistance the E-Bike offers can be adjusted so that you can work as hard or as little as you like, but either way it really helps on those uphill climbs.

Heading back from Gwydir Forest it’s worth visiting GWYDIR CASTLE which is open to the public on selected days. Dating back to 1490, the restored Gwydir Castle is one of the finest examples of a Tudor House in Wales. The stunning building is steeped in history and a joy to explore the interior, and well as the impressively landscaped gardens. Keep an eye out for the many peacocks that roam the grounds.

DINING TIPS FOR LLANRWST

For fabulous fish and chips in a great restaurant setting, book a table at TIR A MOR which offers generous portions, great service and a fabulous atmosphere.

If you’re choosing to dine within your luxury lodges in Snowdonia, TY ASHA BALTI HOUSE are a popular Indian Takeaway located in the town centre.

To stock up on local food and drink products, head to BLAS AR FWYD who offer a wide range of goods from local food and drink producers, including some fabulous beers and wines.

Attractions further afield

For visitors of Rwst Holiday Lodges wishing to venture further afield and experience all North Wales has to offer, there are a number of popular attractions within a short drive of Llanrwst. Zip World Fforest, on the outskirts of Betws-y-Coed, is a mere five minute drive away, and the UK’s first inland surfing lagoon at Adventure Parc Snowdonia is ten minutes north of Llanrwst. For those taking a more gentle pace, the stunning National Trust Bodnant Garden is just under ten miles away.

With the footpaths of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) accessible within a thirty minute drive west and the stunning beaches of the North Wales coast a similar distance, Rwst Holiday Lodges really is in the perfect location for an epic North Wales adventure.
